MATCH REPORT: Newcastle 0 Spurs 2

Spurs opened their title challenge with a comfortable 0-2 win away at Newcastle after Jonjo Shelvey was sent off for a ridiculous step on Dele Alli.

Kyle Walker-Peters made a strong debut being named man of the match. He was assured and comfortable on the ball, potent going forward and reliable in defence.

His performance will reassure Spurs fans and Pochettino that they are suitably covered at RB despite the loss of Kyle Walker to Man City and Trippier’s injury against Juventus.

Newcastle were competitive up until Shelvey’s rush of blood and Dwight Gayle looked promising going forward. Once down to 10 men however Spurs’ creative talents were unleashed.

Dele Alli scored the opener after making a trademark run into the box to get on the end of a brilliant Eriksen ball in the 61st minute.

Ben Davies got the 2nd finishing off a brilliant bit of play from Spurs as they intricately worked their way into the box.

Harry Kane also came close twice, hitting the post on the latter occasion. Spurs then proceeded to see the game out comfortably.

Eriksen was class all day showing off his creativity, this season should be a big one for the Dane.

Spurs are up against a depleted Chelsea next week and will be looking to start building some momentum for their title challenge.

Meanwhile Newcastle travel to promotion compatriots Huddersfield in what could prove to be an important game come the end of the season.

MOTM: 20 year old Kyle Waker-Peters had a fantastic debut and looks every bit a first team quality Right Back.
