MATCH REPORT: Watford 0 Brighton 0

Today Brighton got their first Premier League point against a 10 man Watford side at Vicarage Road.

They may feel they should have had more due to the man advantage and unlike against Leicester and Manchester City chances were relatively frequent. However you would expect a team to capitalise with the extra man. During the 0 – 0 draw Watford stood firm, muscling and keeping the south-coast side at bay.

Before Britos’ Horrific tackle on Knockaert the match was far more open and dominated by Watford. However Brighton also had their chances, Knockhaert even hitting the post during an attack.

However after Britos flew in off the ground and slammed into Knockhaert, the game became far more cagy. Watford became more cautious and unconfident.

Brighton saw this cautiousness and created multiple chances, one of which included a penalty appeal when Knockaert was kicked yet again, this time in the face by Adboulaye Doucoure’s high foot.

This, strangely, was given as a indirect free kick to Watford due to the fact referee Graham Scott believed Knockaert was not caught however Doucoure’s foot was still too high to be tolerated. The indirect freekick was yet another chance Briton could not capitalise on.

The visiting side really turned the screw in the second half, playing with more intensity when Watford where dealt another blow when the substitute Craig Cathcart was injured at the start of the second half. However despite hitting the woodwork 3 times they could only came home with a point.

Watford however will feel like this point was well earned considering all factors, one of these also being 0 shots on target. 0 – 0 it finished, in a game which was far more interesting than the score line suggests.
