Mane sees red as Manchester City run riot.
Liverpool were today given a masterclass in football by a rejuvenated Manchester City team who dealt a 5-0 thrashing to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
When the reds were reduced to ten men they were already a goal down, but Peps men were not in a forgiving mood: proceeding to power four more past Klopp’s hapless looking men.
The game started brightly for Liverpool as they had arguably the better of the early stages but City fought back and began to string some of their characteristic flowing moves together and eventually in the 24th minute they struck. David Silva’s delightful throw ball was taken by Aguero who rounded the keeper and slotted home. 1-0.
Matters weren’t help in the 37th minute when Sadio Mane left a high foot that connected with Ederson’s jaw, giving the referee John Moss no option but to send him off. Then, for a real kick in the teeth, Gabriel Jesus added a second in injury time at the end of the first half.
Liverpool just could not get back in to the game. City’s defence did not look strong but the ten men of Liverpool couldn’t capitalise on it. In the 53rd minute Jesus grabbed his second before extended periods of City pressure led to a further two goals from Leroy Sane in the 77th and 91st minute just made Liverpool’s afternoon even more embarrassing.
Pep inflicted Klopps first defeat in all competitions and my word it was comprehensive. Not just the margin of defeat but also in attitude and the way they played. City looked lethal going forward in attack and their players always believed they could get more. With De Bruyne deployed in a deeper midfield position he could get the ball from Fernando and then spray it all around the park.
It’s safe to say that Liverpool have a lot left to improve on and City are a force to be reckoned it. Bring on the rest of the season.
