PREVIEW: Huddersfield Town vs Arsenal – 13/05/2018
Huddersfield Town vs Arsenal
Venue: John Smiths Stadium
Referee: Michael Oliver
So we finally come to the end of the Wenger era, after 3 titles, 2 doubles, the Invincibles and twelve years of slow, tortuous decline one of football’s greatest managers will end his career in Yorkshire this weekend.
Whether the match goes ahead may depend on whether the Huddersfield coach has returned back from Stamford Bridge. The Huddersfield manager David Wagner said the players had decided to abondon the plane trip home take the coach “to have more than one beer”. The draw against Chelsea secured Huddersfield a place in the Premier League next year and it is only the fact the started off well before slumping that has seen this feat be underplayed. Huddersfield staying up is one of the great survival stories of the recent era and if they can add a dependable goalscorer next season or Steve Mounie can kick on again they should be set for another survival next season.
Serious injuries to Koscielny, Elneny and Cazorla will rule them out of the final day as will suspension for Mavropanos after his red card in midweek. Mesut Ozil will also be out with a bad back again and it remains to be seen if the German will ever play for the club again given the harder line attitudes of the managerial shortlist.
Huddersfield are only missing bit part players Williams and Hefele and longer term injury Kachunga. And anyone still recovering from the coach ride home on the run from the Martini Police.
The game on Sunday should be a huge celebration for both sides, and with nothing to play for the game could be a damp squib or a end to end thriller, so in the spirit of end of season positivity let’s go for a high scoring thriller!
