Could the likes of Walker, Alderweireld and Dier be headed to pastures new this summer?
Mauricio Pochettino’s work over the last three years at Spurs is in danger of being undone as Spurs face the danger of an exodus in the transfer window. 90MAAT takes a look at the Spurs players who could potentially be leaving this Summer
Players of the Exodus:
Kyle Walker
Walker was arguably the best wing back in the league for the first half of this season and has improved dramatically under Pochettino. However a £40-50 million pound move to Manchester City seems to be all but inevitable, as long as City will actually pay that seemingly ridiculous price.
Spurs have Trippier to step in, and whilst his crossing ability and defensive awareness are far superior to Walkers, he lacks the exceptional speed that has set Walker apart from other similar wing backs. Apparent fallings out and selection disagreements have set Walker up for a move away.
Probability: Very Likely
Toby Alderweireld
Toby Alderweireld is arguably the only player in this Spurs outfit who is truly irreplaceable.
His impact on the defensive solidity is proven by the fact every team he has played for in his professional career has either had the first or second best defence in their respective leagues.
With contract negotiations still apparently unresolved, it seems certain that Alderweireld is keeping his options open. Tottenham’s only saving grace is that the likes Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and Bayern are well stocked at centre back.
However, should one decide they fancy an upgrade, it is hard to see them looking further than the Belgian, with his class both off and on the ball clear for everyone to see.
Probability: Possible
Christian Eriksen
The Dane has had another exceptional season at the Lane with 12 assists and 20 goals this year. A player who would be seemingly ideal for many of the major European teams.
Eriksen may yet need to step up one more level before the big guns come calling, but Eriksen himself has said this week that if Spurs do not progress, then he will be looking to move on.
Probability: Very Unlikely
Dele Alli
Spurs’ wonderkid has said all the right things post season. Stating that he is looking for Spurs to build next year at Wembley, calling for the players to show unity and to stick together.
But there are some relatively tenuous rumours that he already has his eyes set on a future elsewhere, namely at Real Madrid.
Both Dele and the major European clubs know he is not ready yet.
But if someone is desperate enough to offer the right money, a move could happen sooner than we expected.
Probability: Very Unlikely
Eric Dier
Looking at Eric Dier’s body language at the end of the season it seems as if his head may have been turned by a guaranteed starting role and triple his wages at the likes of Manchester United.
It would be a fantastic signing for Jose Mourinho and a huge loss for Spurs. His versatility is vital, and his ability on the ball along with his defensive understanding is a rare combination in a young English player – his Portuguese schooling to thank for that.
Probability: Possible
Danny Rose
Danny Rose, similar to Walker, is another Spurs wing back to really prove himself this season. Guardiola has been circling but similar to Dele Alli it seems as if Rose looking to continue growing with Spurs and wants the squad to stay together.
However, if two or three of the players above walk out the door this summer, don’t be surprised if Rose follows them.
Probability: Unlikely
It is unlikely Spurs will sell more than one or two of this key group. It seems Walker is on his way, and their hands may be forced with Alderweireld.
However if they can keep the rest of this group then they should be able to strengthen over the summer
