FEATURE: Lukaku to Manchester United, could the rumours be true?

With Manchester United’s interest in Antoine Griezmann beginning to allegedly cool; due to Athletico Madrid’s transfer ban being upheld, Jose Mourinho is reported to be lining up a record-breaking world transfer for the second consecutive season.

Romelu Lukaku is the man Mourinho has in his sight, having just finished another outstanding season and finished with 25 goals in the Premier League, taking his all time PL total to an impressive 87 league goals.

With Everton demanding £100 million for their main man, does Lukaku represent value in another potential world record fee from United? I believe so. Lukaku still is yet to reach his peak; at just 24 years old, and if United are willing to fork out a record-breaking fee they could be looking at a player capable of becoming a great within the realms of Old Trafford.

Lukaku in my eyes would be a huge upgrade on United’s current attack, which at times last season has been blunt and cost them vital points as they stubbed out of the top four, owing to a combination of injury and misfortune in its masses.

As for Ibrahimovic, this is a player possessing indisputable greatness. Though he is beginning to near the latter end of his career and is not a permanent solution for United. There is also no guarantee he will be at Manchester United next season, as contract talks remain ongoing with a reported stalling over wage demands.

Marcus Rashford is a raw, rare talent who Manchester United are far too aware holds vast ability at just 19. If given the chance to hold down a first-team spot, it is likely Rashford could deliver.

Though with a sixth place league finish in 2016/17 and a need for immediate returns, the security and goals that a player like Lukaku brings to a team and to in this instance Mourinho could prove a temptation too far, despite Everton’s alleged insistence they will accept nothing less than £100m.

There is unquestionably room for a striker like Lukaku in the United dressing room, the combative striker has the world at his feet with strength, speed, aerial ability and superb finishing. The Belgian could prove even more deadly with the United playmakers behind him. However United will have to move fast if they want to secure him in their roster, as Chelsea are right in the running for his signature.

Could the signing of Lukaku be the key to unlock the potential of Manchester United’s star-studded squad and lead them back to the top of the league?
