Arsenal hopeful of securing Denis Suárez

According to reports in the Guardian, Arsenal are hopeful of signing Barcelona’s Denis Suárez during the January transfer window. It is understood that Unai Emery is an admirer of the Catalonia midfielder, having managed him at Sevilla during the 2014/15 season.

The midfielder has struggled at Barcelona and has only managed 46 appearances during two and a half seasons. With Arsenal set to lose Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer, it is vital that the Welshman is replaced and Suárez is now looking like one of the leading candidates.

After the clubs 3-0 win in the third round of the FA Cup, Emery said ‘I think the club is working for the possibility to take some players who can help us during these next four months’. He went onto say that ‘Maybe the transfer market can help us with a centre-back…also a winger, right or left, one player can help us in this position.’

Suárez has also received interested from clubs in Italy with AC Milan and Roma keen to pick up the 25-year-olds signature. The Guardian has suggested the fee to sign the Spaniard would be around £20m yet reports in the Independent argue that the Gunners would prefer to sign the playmaker on loan with an option to buy.

Barcelona have previously sold the midfielder to Villarreal but exercised a buyback clause of £3.1m but it is understood they are keen to offload him this January. The Spaniard is no stranger to England though as he spent two years of his youth at Premier League champions, Manchester City, before Barcelona secured his services.
