Bayern Munich in hot pursuit of Chelsea wonderkid

18 year old Callum Hudson-Odoi is attracting huge interest from Bayern Munich according to Sky Sports.

Die Bayern have tabled an offer in the region of £30 million but Chelsea are holding out for upwards of £40 million. The German Champions have already had two bids rejected in the region of £13.5 million and £20 million.

Bayern clearly see Hudson-Odoi as the next big thing in European football and it appears that both clubs are seeking an agreement. Hudson-Odoi has already made a name for himself with his blistering acceleration and dribbling skills and has produced some promising performances already in a Chelsea shirt, especially in pre-season and the Europa League.

His first-team opportunities in the Premier League however have been few and far between and with only 18 months left on his contract, it seems Chelsea may look to cash in on the 18-year-old.

Chelsea are notorious for their inability to provide first-team opportunities to promising youngsters with the likes of Salah, Lukaku and De Bruyne all moving away from the Bridge in order to further their careers.

Hudson-Odoi looks to be another name to add to that list and the £57m arrival of Christian Pulisic will certainly not have convinced him to stay on at Chelsea.

The progress of Jadon Sancho’s career whilst in Germany will also no doubt serve as some encouragement to the Chelsea youngster should he want a transfer abroad.

Both teams involved seemed to be keen to get a deal across the line, with Chelsea Chief Executive Marina Granovskaia holding out for £40m. Sarri has recently come out and stated his desire to keep the talented prospect on Chelsea’s books but it seems he will have little say – he stated in an interview with the BBC that he didn’t even know of Pulisic’s arrival in South-West London.

It would certainly be a shame if Hudson-Odoi were to leave the Premier League but it seems increasingly likely that Bayern Munich will get their man by the end of the January transfer window.
