Chelsea edge closer to £55m Higuain signing

Chelsea have reportedly initiated contact with Juventus over the signing of Gonzalo Higuain, with an opening offer in the region of £55m.

New Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is keen to bolster his attacking options, as he aims to rebrand the Blues as an aggressive attacking side.

The pair have previously worked together at Napoli, where Higuain netted 71 league goals in 104 appearances.

The Argentinian striker has been plying his trade at Juventus for the past two seasons, but the Old Lady are looking to lighten the wage bill after pulling off the mammoth signing of Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this month. Higuain has been in fine form in Turin, scoring 55 goals in two seasons.

It will be interesting to see what this signing means for Alvaro Morata, who has openly admitted he wants to be playing his football in Italy. Rumours suggest he may be included in a swap deal, after only one season at Stamford Bridge.

Higuain would be the second high profile signing under the Sarri regime, following the signing of Jorginho from Napoli for a reported £50m.
