Could Morata be on his way out of Chelsea?

There is increasing speculation that Alvaro Morata may be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this transfer window with Sevilla interested in a deal, reports The Sun.

The 26-year-old striker has endured a tough time at Chelsea this season scoring only 5 goals in 16 appearances and missing a handful of guilt-edged opportunities on top of that. It seems that Maurizio Sarri and the Chelsea hierarchy may now look to offload Morata in order to create space for a replacement.

The indifferent performances of Morata and Giroud, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, has led Sarri to deploy Eden Hazard in a false nine role. However, it seems Sarri does not see Hazard as a long-term resolution to the problematic striker’s position.

Gianfranco Zola, Sarri’s assistant at Chelsea, has more recently stated that while Morata is one of the most technically gifted forwards in world football, he still needs to improve tactically if he is going to succeed in the Premier League.

Whether that was the Chelsea staff issuing an ultimatum to Morata or not, Sevilla certainly seem interested in bringing Morata to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán after selling their striker Luis Muriel to Fiorentina. Reports say that should Morata leave Chelsea this window, Gonzalo Higuaín would be the prime target for Chelsea, with Sarri identifying him as perfect for the Chelsea number 9 role.

Alvaro Morata’s transfer away from the Premier League would certainly be a shame given the amount of work he puts in for the team. However, unfortunately, industry must be matched with quality at the top-level clubs and Morata just hasn’t managed to find the goal-scoring ability he most definitely possesses.

Morata certainly still has a chance at Chelsea and should he hit the heights of his potential, he could become a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League.
