Everton close in on Brazilian international

Everton are set to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Bernard, Sky Sports reports suggest.

Bernard is a free agent after letting his contract expire at Shakhtar Donetsk this summer and has been granted a work permit.

The Brazilian can play either as an attacking midfielder or as a winger but excels at taking players on with his pace and dribbling. Few other Everton player possesses this ability and work rate, it should suit new manager Marco Silva’s style of play, which involves fast transitions forward. It’s thought the Portuguese manager played a pivotal role in persuading Bernard to join the Premier League side.

Previous concerns have arisen about the 25-year-old slight frame, but there is no question he has tremendous technical ability.

Over the course of five seasons for the Ukrainian Champions, Bernard made 157 appearances and contributed with 28 goals. He also featured for Brazil in the 2014 World Cup, starting once and twice appearing as a substitute. However, he missed the 2018 World Cup in Russia with a shoulder injury.
