ANALYSIS: Harry Maguire the man for Leicester as Shakespeare secures £17m deal.

Leicester City have confirmed the £17m signing of Harry Maguire from relegated Hull City. Craig Shakespeare has moved swiftly to shore up a defence that looked dependent on the reliable but ageing Robert Huth and Wes Morgan in the 2016/17 season.

Maguire represents outstanding value at £17m, given the lunacy in the current market and the ever-increasing value of players seemingly by the day.

Leicester will be looking to Maguire as a long-term signing who can provide defensive stability and give strong leadership to a team faced with a huge season starting in August.

Shakespeare has also moved for West Bromwich Albion’s Jonny Evans: a £10m bid was rejected by Tony Pulis earlier this week.

Hull City’s relegation to the Premier League has ignited an influx of transfer movement on Humberside, much to the distaste of Hull’s fanbase as Marco Silva departed for Vicarage Road whilst Maguire has now left to remain in the Premier League.

At £17m, Maguire offers considerable value to Leicester – it would be far from surprising to see an England call-up if Maguire is able to cement his place in Leicester’s starting XI with centre-back remaining a divisive topic of conversation within the St George’s Park complex.

Following the conclusion of the transfer window in two months time, we will be able to reflect on the comparative value that Maguire’s transfer offers to both Leicester and the relegated Hull City.

Though it is not unimaginable to be looking back come September with Leicester City’s astute business in this £17m purchase standing out as offering simply phenomenal value.
