Juventus set to move for Manchester City prodigy

Juventus are closely monitoring the contractual situation of Manchester City star Phil Foden, with the Italian giants set to launch a move if the English youngster fails to agree a new deal with the Citizens, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

Foden, 18, won the FIFA U17 World Cup with England in 2017, and has made a handful of appearances for the first-team as Pep Guardiola plots the integration of one of City’s brightest prospects into their long-term plans.

The Englishman’s counterpart in City’s youth set-up, Jadon Sancho, opted to decline a new deal with the Citizens and pursue first-team football with Borrusia Dortmund, and City will be concerned that their widely regarded prodigy in the form of Foden does not opt for a similar path.

Foden’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, meaning a club like Juventus could sign the 18-year-old for just £175,000 – the Italian side are masters in the art of free transfers, and a move for Foden would follow a similar structure of attempting to sign a player with proven potential for a minimal fee, though City will be extremely keen to prevent this becoming a reality.

Manchester City remain unbeaten in the Premier League for 2018/19, and come against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night at Wembley.
