Leicester sign Tielemans just before the deadline

Leicester city have confirmed the loan signing of Youri Tielemans from AS Monaco until the end of the season. The deal was agreed just before the deadline closed and sees Adrien Silva go the other way on loan to join Monaco for the rest of the season too.

This is a deal that suits everybody because Tielemans has only seen consistent game time under Thierry Henry for Monaco, while he saw a lot of bench time under the previous Monaco manager, Leonardo Jardim.

Following Henry’s sacking, Jardim has now returned to Monaco prompting Tielemans to quickly find a move elsewhere. Similarly, Silva has struggled to play consistently for Leicester since his signing papers arrived 14 seconds late to FIFA, forcing him to wait 6months before his debut. It seemed it had a knock on negative effect on the midfielders career and he will be looking forward to playing under Jardim instead.

For the Foxes, Tielemans brings a wealth of talent as he once won the Belgian midfielder of the year for Anderlecht at just 19 years old. He is also the youngest ever Belgian to play in the Champions League (at 16 years and 148 days), which bearing in mind Belgian’s golden generations is a seriously impressive feat. The agile midfielder has scored some wonder goals for club and Leicester fans can expect more long-range efforts.

Importantly he is a goal scoring midfielder which is something Leicester have been lacking so far this season as they have been relying on their new youngster James Maddison. Leicester will hope to take the pressure off Maddison and get young Tielemans scoring straight away.
