Liverpool and Everton show interest in Brazilian attacking midfielder

Reports in the Mirror suggest that Liverpool are weighing up a move for Ajax’s David Neres yet they could battle for the youngsters’ signature against their Merseyside rivals who are also believed to be interested in the talented Brazilian.

The attacking midfielder could provide competition to Liverpool’s front three or could fit in well behind the deadly trio of Salah, Firmino and Mane. Yet if Liverpool are to sign the Ajax star, they will not only have to fight off their city rivals but also Borussia Dortmund and Paris St-Germain. The latter are believed to be in the market for an attacking midfielder, should they lose Jadon Sancho at the end of the season – with reports continuing to emerge that he is of high interest at Manchester United.

Neres has eight goals and eight assists in the Eredivisie this season and scored a stunning goal against Juventus in their quarter-final Champions League tie last night to level the tie at 1-1.

Jurgen Klopp is believed to be in the market for attacking players this summer due to concerns around squad depth yet Everton boss Marco Silva, feels the certainty of first-team football could lure the youngster to the blue half of Merseyside.

Having said this, it is suggested that Dortmund have already made a significant bid for the attacking midfielder with neither Merseyside club yet to proclaim their interest. Ajax however will be keen to hold onto the 22-year-old as they are set to lose a number of players this summer with both Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt seemingly on the move.

Ajax currently have Neves on contract until 2022, yet the Brazilian has already had a move blocked off by the club back in January when a lucrative move to China was stopped. Therefore, if a big European club such as Liverpool come running in the summer, Ajax may be forced to let Neves go but time will tell on that one.
