Liverpool relinquishing their grip on this starlet can provide a platform for greatness – opinion

Liverpool have agreed to let 19-year-old Rhian Brewster leave on loan for the rest of the season, with the striker joining Championship side Swansea City. Brewster is yet to make his full Premier League debut in the first half of the season and is desperate for action having not come on as a substitute either. The step down in division should serve him well, after the teenager dominated the Premier League 2 scoring 13 goals in 28 appearances, including four in seven this season.

It is surprising that the Premier League leaders have decided to wait until mid-way through the campaign to let the striker leave, but the Swans will be thrilled to have him as they push for a return to the top-flight. Currently, the Welsh side find themselves occupying the last Championship play-off place, but they are just a single point above Millwall in seventh. Swansea have scored the lowest number of goals of any team in the top 15 of the Championship but will be hoping the teenage sensation can change that.

Based on his performances this season it is difficult to suggest if Brewster will provide the answers for Swansea. The 19-year-old made his full debut for the Reds earlier this campaign in the Carabao Cup against MK Dons but was unable to get on the scoresheet. Further appearances against Arsenal and Everton in cup competitions also failed to yield any attacking contributions from the striker. However, he was particularly impressive in pre-season, netting a brace against Tranmere and a goal against Bradford City.

His record at youth level suggest that Brewster has all the ingredients to be a success, he has a U17 World Cup victory to his name where he was the top scorer in the tournament. But while fellow squad members Phil Foden, Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi have all kicked on, Brewster is yet to make his full top-flight debut.

The key to the striker catching up will not be dependent on the number of goals he scores with Swansea but the lessons the teenager takes from his Championship experience. Many strikers have taken their time to come to fruition, Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane are two recent examples, and the youngster still has the time on his side to return to Anfield and make his debut next term.
