Liverpool targeting 11-goal Bundesliga star

Newly-crowned Champions of Europe Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp are set to make a move for Werder Bremen striker Max Kruse, according to reports from the Daily Star.

Kruse, 31, is out of contract at the Bundesliga club this summer, and the Merseyside outfit are set to make a move to add to their attacking armoury in bidding to mount another domestic challenge and retain Europe’s premier club competition.

The striker has been at Bremen since 2016, enjoying a fine 2018/19 campaign where the German scored 11 goals and registered nine assists in 31 matches as Florian Kohfeldt’s side finished 8th in the Bundesliga.

A move for Kruse would cost Klopp and owners Fenway Sports nothing and would help to provide back-up to Liverpool’s attacking options, particularly as rumours of Daniel Sturridge’s departure gather pace owing to the expiration of the Englishman’s contract.

Liverpool’s success in the 2018/19 campaign is likely to enable the club to attract any player in the world to Anfield, and especially given Klopp’s knowledge and awareness of the player from his time in Germany with Borrusia Dortmund, this may be a deal that the club are able to seal early with an attractive package from their Champions League windfall.

If Klopp’s side are to compete for the Premier League and enjoy yet another successful season on the continent, recruitment will have to be shrewd, and the squad arguably only requires refining and not overhauling to ensure another remarkable campaign.

A move for Kruse would represent economic efficiency and the acquisition of a player Klopp is aware of both personally and professionally, and given Sturridge’s expected departure from Anfield, this is a transfer that could work perfectly in their pursuit of another sensational campaign on Merseyside.
