Manchester City have managed to tie down Phil Foden to a new five and half year contract that would see the young maestro stay at the Etihad until the age of 24.
Pep Guardiola and the City fans will no doubt will be delighted that their most promising youth academy product dubbed the ‘Stockport Iniesta’ has committed his future to the club.
The Citizens have already had trouble keeping their promising youngsters with the likes of Jadon Sancho making a name for himself at Dortmund, and more recently Brahim Diaz who looks destined to see out his current contract.
Phil Foden’s future with Guardiola’s team never really seemed in doubt though. Foden has been playing for Manchester City since the age of eight and is a Citizen through and through.
He underlined his attachment to the club in a recent interview with Sky Sports saying it was a ‘dream come true’ that he was able to sign a new contract with City.
Txixi Begiristain, Manchester City’s Director of Football, echoed his delight at the new deal, calling Foden an ‘outstanding talent’ who is in the best possible place to continue his development.
The Stockport Iniesta is certainly showing signs that he could genuinely reach a world-class standard and few could question that City is the best place to learn the ropes. Under Guardiola’s stewardship, the starlet could go very, very far.
