Manchester United turn up the heat as Everton lose three on the bounce.

Manchester United continued their unbeaten start with an emphatic 4-0 win at Old Trafford over a struggling Everton. This display spoiled Wayne Rooney’s return to the club he graced for thirteen years while Lukaku scored one and made one to sink his former side.

United opened the goal scoring with a magnificent strike in the first five minutes from right back Antonio Valencia who found himself in space on the edge of the box. Everton remained a competitive force throughout the game and the final score is perhaps slightly unfair on the Merseyside club. Gylfi Sigurdsson and Wayne Rooney who looked to cap his return with a goal both had clear goal scoring opportunities saved by David De Gea at 1-0.

Mkhitaryan then slotted home from a Lukaku assist after an Ashley Williams mistake at the back. This signalled the end of Everton’s resilience with Lukaku punishing his former teams slack defending topping his goal with a jubilant celebration in front of the away fans. Anthony Martial then finished from the penalty spot to add to Everton’s commiserations. 

Koeman said after the match that his side lacked confidence and that they were beaten by a clinical Manchester United side.

Everton’s torrid form continued as they suffered their third Premier League defeat in a row and their fourth in all competitions. Fans saw their club slip into the bottom three with the lowest goal difference in the league.

They have also failed to score in their last four fixtures. Although they showed more fight, they lack pace, togetherness and a goal scorer. After spending £150m in the transfer window, fans may be worried about who they have signed and how the Toffees are playing.

The win puts Manchester United level with Man City at the top of the table with identical statistics. With many speculating how United would perform without injured Paul Pogba, the starting 11 had a point to prove and the high-flying title favourites look ruthless and composed and will welcome fixtures against any of the Premier Leagues top teams.
