Marcos Alonso: Chelsea defender faces three match ban for charge of violent conduct

Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso is facing a three-match ban after being charged by the Football Association with violent conduct.

Alonso dragged his studs down the back of Saints striker Shane Long’s leg during the first-half of the Chelsea’s 3-2 win at St Mary’s last Saturday.

Mark Hughes claimed the challenge almost broke his player’s leg, though Alonso did not receive a yellow card from Mike Dean, and therefore is liable for retrospective action.
If banned, Alonso will miss matches against Burnley (A) Southampton in their FA Cup semi-final and Swansea (A).

Now, having reviewed the footage, FA chiefs have decided to charge the 27-year-old Spaniard retrospectively.
