Marcus Rashford closes in on new Manchester United deal

Reports in the Daily Mirror have suggested that Marcus Rashford is set for a new deal at Manchester United worth a staggering £78million.

The England international is in advanced talks with the Red Devils regarding a new five-year contract and reports suggest the 21-year-old could be set to receive £300,000 a week – the same as Wayne Rooney when he was at the club.

The youngster is currently out of contract come the end of the season yet United do have the option to extend it by 12 months until 2021. This scenario would be the worst possible one for United though, who are keen to secure the future services of their number 10.

Rashford has managed 10 goals in 26 Premier League appearances this season – his first double-digit haul in the league, and he has also been paramount in United’s Champions League campaign – scoring the winning penalty vs PSG to secure their passage through to the quarter-finals.

He is arguably United’s most prized asset currently considering his age and his clear ability and United may have to pay up if they are to keep hold of the youngster. He believes his form and ability means he deserves to be on the same amount of money as United’s record goalscorer, Rooney, and although there is a long way to go to catch up to Rooney’s record, United certainly see Rashford as their man for many years to come.

If reports are correct, the youngster will nearly quadruple his wages and will commit himself to his boyhood club whilst also ending interest from the likes of Real Madrid, who have reportedly been interested in the striker.

Despite the move not making Rashford the highest paid player at the club (currently Alexis Sanchez on a rather stupid £500.000-a-week) the move would make Rashford one of the highest paid youngsters in English football and would see him commit himself to Premier League football and the red half of Manchester for years to come.
