Mauricio Pochettino delivers injury update on Harry Kane

Mauricio Pochettino provided an injury update on Harry Kane today saying the Englishman will discover next week whether he will miss the rest of the season when he sees a specialist regarding his ankle injury.

The club confirmed on Thursday that Kane suffered a “significant lateral ligament injury to his left ankle” in their victory over Manchester City in Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final tie at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

When reporters asked Pochettino if Kane could return this season, the Argentine responded by saying “we’ll see. There’s still five weeks and we need to assess, but it’s going to be difficult for sure. It’s going to be tough.”

“We need to assess him every day but [we need] to have proper answers to see when he possibly can start training with the team, but today it is impossible to give a date,” the Tottenham manager said.

Pochettino did suggest after the victory over Pep Guardiola’s side that Kane would likely be out for the rest of the season but stated today “I think now he’s in a good place because he’s a very positive guy, and now he’s looking forward to try recover as soon as possible.”

The Tottenham and England striker suffered a very similar injury which most will recall earlier in the season against Manchester United which kept him out for just over a month. Tottenham won all four Premier League games they had without Kane during that period but did get knocked out of both the Carabao and the FA Cup. This will not make for happy readings for most Tottenham fans who will already be nervous for next weeks trip to the Etihad for their second leg match vs the Citizens.

Having said this, the Lilywhites will be confident they can pick up a win this weekend as they welcome Huddersfield to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Aside from Tottenham, Kane’s injury is also a concern for Gareth Southgate and England as the Three Lions have the chance to win the Nations League this summer and they play the Netherlands in the semi-finals on the 6th June – a fixture they will be hoping to have Kane fit for.
