Neil Warnock threatens to play reserves against Manchester City

Neil Warnock has made the remarkable claim he may play his reserves against Manchester City after bemoaning the refereeing decision that saw Cardiff lose out to Chelsea in a tight 2-1 defeat on Sunday.

Warnock and the Bluebirds were left to rue what could have been after an offside decision wasn’t given against Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea, and despite being 1-0 up courtesy of a Victor Camarassa strike, they went on to lose the game 2-1 and drift to five points from safety.

The Cardiff manager was critical in the immediate post-match aftermath, as well as in radio appearances on TalkSport, and made the claim he may play his reserves against the reigning Champions on Wednesday.

“I think we can keep the score down at Man City, I think we can keep it to single figures” said Warnock.

“But I might play the reserves down there, it’ll be interesting to see what the journalists think of that.”

“We keep getting knock-backs, I will probably play the U23s on Wednesday against Manchester City and try to keep it down to 10 or 11. It doesn’t matter who you play at the minute, it is who has a flag in his hand and who has a whistle.”

Warnock’s stinging criticism of the standard of refereeing in the Premier League also came with a barbed attack at PGMOL chief Mike Riley, whilst further stating, admittedly in minor jest, that the “12-13” refereeing decisions he felt had gone against his team in the current campaign were revenge for the stick he had given officials over his career as a manager.

Cardiff will be up against the odds at the Etihad but could be bolstered by the injury to the Premier League’s leading scorer Sergio Aguero who may be absent for the clash on Wednesday night.
