Predicted Premier League Table 2018/19 – Update 5

We’ve done it. We have finally made it to Christmas, generally a good predictor of how teams will finish at the end of the season. The Christmas break is a busy time for football, with as many as three games in a week! Let’s have a look at the current table.

    1. Liverpool ˄1
    2. Spurs ˄4
    3. Manchester City ˅3
    4. Chelsea – 0
    5. Arsenal ˅2
    6. Manchester United ˅1
    7. Leicester City ˄2
    8. Everton ˅1
    9. West Ham ˅1
    10. Watford ˄6
    11. Wolves ˅1
    12. Bournemouth ˄6
    13. Brighton ˄4
    14. Crystal Palace ˅2
    15. Newcastle –0
    16. Southampton ˅2
    17. Cardiff ˄3
    18. Burnley ˅7
    19. Fulham ˅6
    20. Huddersfield ˅1

There has been shift at the top of the table. Liverpool now rule the roost currently still unbeaten, could they be rewarded with a golden trophy come the end of the season? Liverpool’s attack is always very exciting to watch, and they’ve even tightened up their defence as well looking like a very solid all round team. The last four leaders at Christmas have gone on to win the title, the last team to fail to do this were in fact Liverpool. They have actually failed to remain type twice! Will they overcome this bad luck or slip up once again?

Whilst they’ve been mentioned every time for how well they’re doing, it is justified. Bournemouth and Watford are having amazing seasons by their standards and are our biggest movers away from our predictions.

However, there are some major disappointments. Not only are they facing impending doom of relegation to the Championship, but Burnley and Fulham are also performing way below expectations. The end of the year is always a time for reflection and it seems that some strong new year’s resolutions are required. Teams seem to be quite capable of the great escape, but something clearly has to change for our bottom three in the new year in order to avoid the dreaded drop.

2018 has been a wonderful year for football as a whole. A new Ballon d’Or winner other than Messi or Ronaldo for the first time in 10 years, was announced in the form of Luka Modric, England made the semi-finals of the World Cup and Mo Salah beat the previous goals in a Premier League season record with 32 strikes. We are all hoping that 2019 is just as amazing and continues to peak our interest as we enter the new year. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!
