Wayne Rooney returns to Old Trafford for the first time since leaving Man United as their record goal scorer.

Rooney left United this summer, and is part of an Everton side that will be keen to put disappointing results against Tottenham and most recently Atalanta behind them.

Jose Mourinho lost his perfect League record for this season when his team could only draw 2-2 at Stoke last weekend, but a win could ensure they remain top of the table.

Team News:

United will be without Paul Pogba for at least a month after he suffered an injury to his hamstring during the 3-0 Champions League win over Basel in midweek.

His replacement could be Marouane Fellaini, whose performance against Basel was incredibly impressive, as he showed the qualities which deem him irreplaceable according to Mourinho. Ashley Young may also retain his place at right back after a very positive attacking display.

Ronald Koeman has some tough tactical decisions to make given their poor performances recently, but he will be without Ross Barkley through a hamstring injury, Ramiro Funes Mori and Yannick Bolasie with longstanding knee injuries, and Seamus Coleman with a broken leg. However, Morgan Schneiderlin should be available to play against his former club.

Despite their disappointing result against Stoke, Man United still look a formidable outfit, but their squad depth will be put to the test after Paul Pogba’s injury. Regardless they should have enough to defeat Koeman’s Everton side, who will be hoping to display far more fight and defensive stubbornness than they have shown recently.
