Spurs V Burnley

Date: 27/08/17

KO: 16:00

Spurs go into Sunday afternoon’s clash needing to put to rest outside doubts about their Wembley credentials after last weeks disappointing 1-2 loss to Chelsea.

Burnley will be looking to take another top 6 scalp after seeing off Chelsea in a dramatic season opener. They also need to bounce back after last weeks home loss to West Brom.

Spurs have been boosted in the last few days with the signings of 21 year old Davinson Sanchex from Ajax (c.£40m), as well as back up goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga from Southampton.

Spurs are supposedly also close to completing a deal for £23m Right Back Serge Aurier from PSG, with the Mirror reporting that the deal is all but complete with Aurier having completed his medical in Paris. Don’t expect any of these to feature on Sunday.

Spurs need to put on a dominant display to build momentum and confidence at the start of this campaign.

Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli have bene excellent already, while Harry Kane continues to suffer from his August hoodoo. A goal for Kane and a comfortable win for Spurs will be a target for Pochettino and his men.

Burnley saw off Blackburn 0-2 this week in the EFL cup. But the game didn’t pass without incident as the heated Lancashire rivalry between fans and players boiled over.

However, Sean Dyche’s men played well throughout and if they can stay compact and rigid they have a chance of making it difficult for Spurs on Sunday.

Jonathan Walters is unlikely to feature after the ankle injury he suffered midweek against Blackburn.

It is also unlikely that New Zealander Chris Wood will be giving his first start so expect to see Sam Vokes trying to keep Spurs’ defence interested.

Key Men:

Eriksen has stepped up a level recently, in the process creating an immense partnership with the prolific Dele. Expect these two to pick their way through Burnley’s defence at some point on Sunday.

Predicted Lineups:

Spurs – Lloris, Dier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Trippier, Wanyama, Dembele, Davies, Eriksen, Dele, Kane

Burnley – Heaton, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Ward, Cork, Defour, Hendrick, Barnes, Brady ,Vokes

Score Prediction:

Spurs 3 Burnley 1
