This fresh-faced Tottenham striker could be on the cusp of a breakthrough in North London – opinion

Harry Kane’s injury woes are keeping the 26-year-old out of action for a significant period after he tore his left hamstring, meaning Tottenham are left without a genuine striker at the helm.

However, Troy Parrott is a name that Spurs fans have had on their minds as a young prodigy gearing up to take centre stage at Spurs in the future. The 17-year-old has impressed in the youth team in the last year and even earned a senior call-up to the Irish national team in recent months.

On top of this, Parrott has been named as one of UEFA’s 50 young players to watch in 2020, with the striker rapidly attracting attention from those involved with Spurs.

Parrott has learned from the best at Tottenham, with Kane as the teacher, and he impressed during pre-season, fighting hard to win the ball in deep positions and playing effective passes forward. The forward has scored ten goals in various international youth competitions this season and is certainly a promising figure at Spurs.

With Kane out of action, it is likely we will see the experienced Lucas Moura or Heung-min Son occupy a striker’s role ahead of Troy Parrott, at least in the starting XI. However, with Mourinho’s past emphasis on youth players, we may see a surprising amount of game time given to the 17-year-old while Kane remains sidelined.

With only 74 minutes of competitive game time under his belt, Parrott is largely yet to display his true potential but, from what we know of the Spurs youth system, he will have plenty to say of himself if he gets called up to the first team. Harry Kane, who also came through the youth system, may have been mentoring Parrott for a while and the Irishman will be eager to impress.

Spurs’ upcoming FA Cup replay against Middlesbrough could be the perfect opportunity for Parrott to make a name for himself.
