Chelsea ready to pounce on Argentinian superstar forward

The Sun reports that Gonzalo Higuaín may be on his way to Stamford Bridge, giving Alvaro Morata an escape route of Chelsea. The Spaniard has had a less than ideal time in South-West London, providing some glimpses of his quality but all too often shirking clear chances when in on goal.

It seems Sarri may be on the lookout for a more prolific striker and Higuaín would certainly fit the bill, given his consistent goal-scoring for Europe’s top clubs over the last 10 years.

However, there are some stumbling blocks that may prevent Chelsea from sealing a deal for the Argentinian striker.

Whilst still officially a Juventus player, the ex-Real Madrid man currently plies his trade at the San Siro for AC Milan whilst on loan. This is the first complication to a deal given that AC Milan have an option to purchase Higuaín for only £32m should they want to. On top of that, any move for Higuaín would be dependent on Morata’s future at the Bridge.

Higuaín, who is actually the 9th most expensive player ever, has had a mixed season for I Rossoneri so far, bagging 6 goals in 15 games. That said, AC Milan have only scored 26 goals in 20 games in the Serie A this season anyway.

The 3rd complication to Higuaín’s move is undoubtedly his age. At 31, he is getting towards the latter stage of his career and it’s hard to imagine Chelsea spending big money on a striker who will only give them two to three years of service.

Nevertheless, Chelsea’s pursuit of Higuaín or any striker at the moment seems to hinge on how much time Sarri is willing to give Morata to prove his worth.
