Danny Ings set to join Southampton on loan from Liverpool

You haven’t read that wrong. A player isn’t moving from Southampton to Liverpool, but in the other direction. Danny Ings has found himself moving down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp after two very unfortunate ACL injuries that left the striker out for the best part of 18 months. However, after returning to fitness towards the end of the season, the Saints have swooped on deadline day to try and secure the former Burnley striker.

The deal would be a one-year loan with the option to make the move permanent, should he perform on the South coast. However, it remains to be seen whether or not the deal will go through in time. Deal sheets have been submitted by both clubs, meaning there is now a small window of time for Southampton to complete the rest of the formalities and get the move completed before 7pm.



Ings made his Premier League debut whilst at Burnley in 2014, and scored 11 times as the Lancashire club were relegated from the top flight. Earning a move to Liverpool saw him start well, impressing under Brendan Rodgers before a serious knee injury cut his season to an abrupt halt. The Englishman didn’t play another Premier League game until this year.

If the Saints can sign the 26-year-old striker, it will be a return home for Ings. The forward was born in Winchester, just 21.9 km away from Southampton. A popular figure on Merseyside, his impressive finishing and hard work could make him an instant hit on the South coast.
