PSG are rumoured to be poised to offer David De Gea a bumper £300,000 per week deal when the winter transfer window opens on January 1st according to reports in the Mail on Sunday.

The future of the goalkeeper has very much gone under the radar in recent weeks, despite the fact that the Spanish stopper is free to talk to foreign clubs during the January transfer window. The Spaniard’s contract at Old Trafford runs out in the summer after Ed Woodward and the goalkeeper’s representatives failed to agree on a new deal, an issue that only adds to the darkness surrounding the Red Devils at the moment.

The former Atletico stopper is no doubt admired worldwide, but it seems that PSG are now at the front of the queue to sign him. The contract set to be offered to De Gea would make him the highest paid goalkeeper ever and would see him usurp the number 1 spot at the Stade de France, potentially opening up a move elsewhere for Alphonse Areola –  with the summer signing of Gianluigi Buffon fulfilling the backup role.

De Gea, who has won the club Player of the Year in four of the last 5 seasons, seems keen on a move after continued reports that he is reluctant to sign a new deal at the Theatre of Dreams due to the current issues at the club.

Should De Gea move to France, Manchester United will be plunged into further turmoil at the news. Not only would they be losing their best player and possibly the best goalkeeper in the world, but they would struggle to find an adequate replacement to fill De Gea’s gloves. There is certainly still a chance for De Gea to extend his stay in the North-West but it will no doubt be intriguing to see how the saga unfolds.
