Liverpool are rumoured to be looking at a shock move for Chelsea star Christian Pulisic this summer.

The 22-year-old moved to Chelsea in 2019 but has failed to find his rhythm and has looked a shadow of his former Dortmund self.

His first season was tainted by an injury, which went on to affect his second year at Chelsea. This year the winger had a slow start to the Premier League, starting just 11 games in the league and returning a dismal one goal and two assists.

Since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, who replaced Frank Lampard as the boss at Stamford Bridge, Pulisic has been given just one start, fuelling rumours that he could be on the way out this summer.

Liverpool have been mentioned as a possible destination for the winger, as the Reds would utilise his speed and trickery in their fast-paced pressing football. Pulisic’s past relationship with Jurgen Klopp has been highlighted as a potential pull that could play into Liverpool’s favour. The American forward joined Dortmund as a 16-year-old in 2015, shortly before Klopp left for Liverpool, so the pair are well acquainted.

The only issue facing this transfer would be the sum of money asked by Chelsea. The American has only been at Chelsea for only two years and cost the Blue’s £58million from Borussia Dortmund. Despite some disappointing performances, it’s certain that the 22-year-old has plenty more to offer and Chelsea would want a similar price they originally paid for him.

For Liverpool, adding another forward would almost certainly mean moving another one on. This would not be a preferred option for many as Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino have been in incredible form over the last few years.

As with most top players, there are always rumours that Real Madrid are interested. If either Sadio Mane or Mohammed Salah were to leave Anfield, it would open the door to potential signings like Pulisic and other highly rated forwards.

The American winger would be a perfect fit for Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp and attacking football. But this transfer would almost certainly confirm the departure of one of Liverpool’s front three.
