Brighton and Hove Albion vs Tottenham Hotspur

Date: 17/04/2018

K/O: 19:45pm

Venue: Amex Stadium

TV: Sky Sports Premier League

Referee: Kevin Friend

Mauricio Pochettino and Chris Hughton’s sides go head to head on Tuesday night at the Amex Stadium, with both sides heading into this encounter on the back of defeats in their previous matches, to Crystal Palace and Manchester City respectively.

Both managers will be chasing a win, but for different reasons. For the home side, a win would go a great way to assure them of their top flight status for next season, and it is vital that they get the win here, for after Tottenham on a congested fixture list, they face in form Burnley and the top three in arguably the most challenging run in of any side.

The relegation battle is likely to carry on to the final day, and Brighton will be keen to avoid narrow skirmishes. Spurs would want to gain some momentum going into their FA Cup tie against Manchester United on the weekend, as Pochettino looks to add a quantifiable  measure of success to the progress made on the pitch.

Team News

Brighton manager Chris Hughton is still unable to call upon the services of Davy Propper, who misses out due to suspension. The remainder of his squad is available for selection, barring only long term absentees Izzy Brown and Steve Sidwell.

His opposite number Maurico Pochettino is expected to rotate the side significantly, as he looks to give his players time to recover before they take on Man Utd to contend for the last piece of domestic silverware available.

Tottenham have received a triple boost in that regard, with Alderweireld set to be included in the matchday squad, Fernando Llorente back after absence due to personal reasons, and Danny Rose making good progress.

Expected Starting XIs

Brighton (4-2-3-1): Ryan | Schelloto, Duffy, Dunk, Bong | Stephens, Kayal | Knockeart, Groβ, Izquierdo | Murray

Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Lloris | Aurier, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Vertonghen | Dier, Wanyama | Lucas, Eriksen, Son | Kane

Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 1 Tottenham Hotspur 2

Despite having the Cup tie to keep an eye on over the weekend, I think Tottenham’s quality would prove to be too much for this Brighton side. I expect a closely contested game, with Spurs dominating the possession, but Brighton looking very threatening from counter attacks.
