Tottenham Hotspur supporters will be elated with the result they took in their 2-2 draw with bitter rivals Arsenal at the Emirates in the North London Derby on Sunday afternoon, however, a worrying injury update has emerged that may burst Ange Postecoglou’s bubble.
James Maddison has been a revelation in North London since his arrival this summer and the former Leicester City talisman has significantly softened the blow of losing club legend Harry Kane too.
The England international has delivered two goals and registered four assists in six Premier League appearances so far, and was instrumental in taking the point away from home last weekend.
However, Spurs fans will be left extremely concerned today about their newly-signed £40m star, as it has now been revealed that Maddison will undergo a scan to assess the damage from a knock he picked up during the heated clash with the Gunners, according to Football.London.
The 26-year-old has been fighting off knocks and niggles throughout his short time with the London club, but when his foot dug awkwardly in the turf during the derby, it looked to cause a lot of pain for Maddison, which led to Postecoglou’s post-match admission about the player’s fitness:
“Madders and Sonny weren’t 100% going into the game but they got through it which suggests that it’s nothing serious.”
Football.London further claimed that Maddison was showing positive signs, but will await the results of a scan before they make a decision on his inclusion on the upcoming fixtures and how best to address the knock.
Our verdict on a potential James Maddison injury blow…
There is no doubt that Spurs have finally found something exciting to believe in under the new management of Postecoglou, and so far the summer recruitment has shown promising signs that the club are ready to take the next steps forward into a new and positive chapter, after struggling to find their identity for a few seasons now.
The Lilywhites crashed out of the Carabao Cup on penalties against Fulham in the previous round, so will not be involved in the upcoming midweek fixtures of the competition, but will be hosting Liverpool at the weekend in the Premier League, so ensuring everyone is fit and prepared for the clash will be essential.
Liverpool are unbeaten in the Premier League and are incredible form at present, which will present Postecoglou’s next big test in the top flight when he leads his team out at the weekend.
However, the result against Arsenal will definitely be a boost of confidence and the home advantage could provide the perfect setting for Spurs to cause an upset against the Reds, especially if Maddison can be fit for the fixture.
With that being said, the injury to Maddison will be a worry to Spurs fans, but as it is only a knock a week of recovery should be enough if the scan shows positive signs.
