Arsenal interested in signing Jeremie Frimpong this summer

Arsenal are interested in signing Bayer Leverusen winger Jeremie Frimpong this summer, according to an update from journalist Stefan Bienkowski.

The Gunners enjoyed a memorable 2022/23 season, coming so close to winning the Premier League title, but ultimately just falling short at the expense of eventual champions Manchester City.

The key now is for Arsenal to kick on from that campaign, rather than sit still, and Mikel Arteta needs to be backed in the transfer market for that to happen.

Declan Rice is on the cusp of being announced as a Gunners, with a big-money move from West Ham almost done, but their summing spending cannot afford to end there.

It could be that Arteta also wants to bolster his wide options, too, and the right-hand side is an area that he could specifically look at, as he aims to provide more competition for both Bukayo Saka and Ben White.

Writing on Twitter, Bienkowski claimed that Leverkusen hero Frimpong is a summer target, with a move to the Emirates far from out of the question:

“I’m told discussions between Arsenal and Leverkusen for Jeremie Frimpong are at a very early stage. Nothing concrete yet. The Bundesliga club would not let him go for less than €50m and will likely expect more.”

Our verdict on Arsenal’s interest in Frimpong…

Frimpong could be precisely what Arsenal are looking for this summer, coming in as arguably a more natural right-back option than White, who has done admirably in the role but is still possibly happier centrally.

The 22-year-old started 32 Bundesliga games for Leverkusen last season – he was more often used in an attacking role instead of at the back – and the fact that he scored eight goals and seven assists says a lot about his productivity in the final third.

The fact that Firmpong’s versatility allows him to thrive at right-back and further forward should be seen as an added bonus for Arteta, only enhancing the squad at his disposal.

The Dutchman is already a six-cap Netherlands Under-21 international, and will surely break into the senior squad in the future, and he should be looked as an exciting long-term acquisition by Arsenal.
