Everton have certainly given Marco Silva the green light to spend lavishly this summer and just 24 hours after news of a £50m Richarlison transfer gathered pace, a £22m bid for Barcelona’s Lucas Digne looks to be on the cards as well.
Silva, who was relentlessly pursued by the blue half of Merseyside, looks to continue strengthening his squad with LB next on his list of targets, although it is questionable why. Leighton Baines has made that spot his own for as long as many football fans can remember, and he continues to be Everton’s most reliable player, contributing both offensively and defensively.
Understandably, he is no longer in the prime of his career, and now on the wrong side of 30, perhaps Marco Silva feels the time is appropriate for someone else to take the reins at left back, with Digne his preferred choice.
According to reports, Digne would be open to a move to where he can be a regular starter, for he has a point to prove after being snubbed for the French squad due lack of minutes on the pitch whilst at Barcelona, being fielded only 20 times across all competitions for the Catalan club.
Digne is a quality attacking full back, and a combination of him and Richarlison on the left flank may be a mouth-watering one for Everton fans worldwide. Digne showed flashes of his potential during his loan spell at Roma, and while it may take some time for the Frenchman to adjust to the English game, if and when he’s set, then he may well prove to be a bargain at only £22m.
