Christian Eriksen: Manchester United plotting January move

Manchester United are plotting a January move for Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen, according to reports from The Sun.

After the club’s pursuit of the midfielder failed over the summer, they will attempt to resurrect the deal when the player has just six months remaining on his existing contract.

Though United are not the only ones monitoring the 27-year-old’s situation; The Express revealed that Inter Milan are also interested in acquiring the Dane as he does not sign a new deal with Spurs.

Eriksen would be free to sign an agreement with Inter in January and move to the club at the end of the season when his contract expires, in a similar move to his former north London rival Aaron Ramsey.

The Danish international signed for Tottenham in 2013 from Ajax for around £11.5 million after Spurs received a vast influx of cash following Gareth Bale’s world-record transfer to Real Madrid.

In the six seasons that have followed the midfielder has become one of Mauricio Pochettino’s key players, and last season he registered 12 assists and scored eight goals from 35 appearances.

As part of Tottenham’s run to the Champions League final last term, Eriksen was directly involved in six goals in 12 games, before the Londoners lost to Liverpool 2-0 in Madrid.

Real Madrid was believed to be Eriksen’s preferred destination after he revealed in June that he would have liked “to try something new.”

Though a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium did not materialise over the summer.

So far, the maestro has started half of his side’s matches this season, while appearing off the bench in the other two.

But when he has been on the pitch his influence has remained as strong as ever; he completely changed the game against Aston Villa as Spurs came from behind to win 3-1, while most recently against rivals Arsenal he opened the scoring for Tottenham in a 2-2 draw.
