Football INDEX Insight: Premier League prospects for your portfolio

After 90MAAT’s Editor Tom appeared on Football Index Guide’s podcast discussing Premier League players ahead of the 2018/19 season, FIG himself has made a debut appearance on the site with a breakdown of the podcast discussion.

First up, we discuss English youngsters that haven’t yet received much playing time at their respective clubs but are sure to be future stars. Rhian Brewster made the headlines with the England U17’s where they won the World Cup, and he was undoubtedly pivotal to their success, scoring eight goals along the road to glory.

Eddie Nketiah was also talked about glowingly; the young Gunner certainly has an eye for goal- as shown in his amazing substitute appearance for Arsenal in the League Cup where he scored a brace. Callum Hudson-Odoi has played a handful of games for Chelsea this season, but he’s already shown that he’s a star in the making. Not too many youngsters get a chance at Roman Abramovich’s club, but could he break the mould? Patrick Roberts- on loan from City to Celtic was also mentioned. He’s recently been linked back to the premier league as a makeweight for a deal with Riyad Mahrez, but can he be a success in England? Tom certainly thinks so!

The next couple of questions asked by Football Index traders were regarding Arsenal! The first of which, asked about Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere’s futures at the club. Ramsey has one year left on his deal come the summer and Wilshere’s contract is up, so what will happen to Arsenal’s British midfield duo? Aaron Ramsey has emerged as one of Arsenal’s leaders and best players, so a deal closer to Mesut Ozil’s wage bracket is what he and his agent are surely vying for. Wilshere, on the other hand, has been offered a new deal, but reports suggest the offers have been rebuffed in hopes of more money.

The second question was regarding players that could prosper with a new manager at the helm. We discussed Granit Xhaka, Mustafi and Bellerin who could all improve with the right defensive coaching. Could these players fulfil their potential under new management?

A question that traders continuously ask me is whether or not you should buy players who are leaving the Premier League. My answer always points to buzz returns- as some of you may have seen, with Coutinho, the buzz returns were just too good to resist, and he saw massive price appreciation. This led us to discuss some players that could leave our shores, including the likes of Eden Hazard.

Relegated teams always offer great opportunities to Football Index traders, so I asked Tom what players could stay in the Premier League even if their respective teams go down. Now at the time of recording, we didn’t know who was going down so we went and rattled off players from Southampton, Stoke, Swansea and West Brom that could be poached by bigger clubs in the league.

Next up we talked about Celtic’s much-coveted full-back, Kieran Tierney. Continually linked to Manchester United, he was bound to catch the eye of many Football Index traders, so Tom went and gave us the low down. Are Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth an option for him or will the red side of Manchester capture the talented left back?

Anthony Martial is sure to be in the papers this summer, so I asked Tom to give us as much information on the situation as possible. Where could he potentially end up? Does he need to leave to fulfil his sky-high potential? Either way- he’s surely going to have many, many suitors during the transfer window.

Speaking of Manchester United, we go on to discuss the positions that the most important clubs with regards to Football Index need to strengthen. Jose Mourinho has very publically stated that they won’t go after any forwards, but could an Anthony Martial exit force his hand to go for Gareth Bale or Paulo Dybala? Or perhaps they’ll target someone younger like Malcom? Defensively, a centre back and left back looks like key targets for the Red Devils.

As discussed earlier Kieran Tierney has been targetted, as well as Danny Rose, Alex Sandro and many others. At Centre half, Milan Skriniar, Kalou Koulibaly and Toby Alderweireld have all been linked with the club recently. With Carrick retiring, Fellaini seemingly on the move it looks like United will be in the market for a holding midfielder, as well as perhaps one in the box to box mould. Fabinho, Fred, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Arturo Vidal, Bryan Cristante and Eric Dier have all been linked to the club so it’ll be fascinating to see who Jose Mourinho pairs with Paul Pogba next season…if he stays at the club that is.

At the start of the show we briefly mention Chelsea loanees Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kenedy, but what other players could return from their loan spells to make an impact at their respective clubs, or other Premier League clubs if they’re sold. As well as dissecting the effects these two could have on Chelsea, we also talk about Jeff Reine-Adelaide, the Arsenal youngster on loan at Angers in Ligue 1.
This season we saw Mohamed Salah take the Premier League by storm, but who is next season’s surprise package?
Who is going to have that breakthrough season? Mo Salah appreciated over 1000% throughout the season, so there’s certainly money to be made if you pick right! Bernardo Silva, GiGi Wijinaldum and Ainsley Maitland-Niles were mentioned amongst a plethora of others, Tom and I may have rattled through around 20 players in this segment!

Lastly, we talked about two Championship players that have made the headlines recently; Ryan Sessegnon and James Maddison. Is there a chance we see one or both in the Premier League next season? If so- can they have Dele Alli style impacts on the clubs they move too? I’m sure Football Index traders will have a keen eye on these two over the summer…
