FPL: Five players who could excel in GW24

Hello there FPL managers, this is Varun here and I have shifted to a different weekly column. Earlier I was reflecting on the past and now I am previewing the future. Who’s excited? I certainly am. Here I will be looking at five players apart from the obvious one who could be a great addition to your team for the upcoming gameweek.

I can see them excelling and rewarding you with instant success. FPL is a game involving as much of luck as of skill, so I don’t expect every one of these players to be a success but they certainly promise a lot.

So, let’s get the party started, shall we?

1. Alexis Sanchez (MUN)

Alexis Sanchez is on his way to Manchester United. It hasn’t been confirmed yet (at the time of writing) but I am going gung-ho to say that it will happen and once it happens I expect him to slot straight into the starting 11. We all know how deadly he can be last season being the highest points scorer in the game. Man Utd travel to Turf Moor and given Burnley’s drop in form over the last few weeks, a debut to remember could be on the cards for the Chilean. At 11.8 million, he is still quite expensive in the game and it would be difficult to bring him in but a good performance away from home on his debut could turn a few heads and give us fantasy managers another headache. Are you brave enough to draft Alexis in?

2. Marko Arnautovic (WHU)

Marko Arnautovic has been in the form of his life for the Hammers. He scored the winner in David Moyes’ first win as West Ham manager and he hasn’t looked back since. A whopping six goals and three assists in his next seven gameweeks shows how amazing his rise has been. He played up front against Huddersfield getting a goal and two assists to provide a whopping 16 points. We all know about a midfielder playing upfront doing the damage week in week out, don’t we? (Josh King)
It looks like he will continue his amazing form so getting him in as he faces Bournemouth at home seems pretty logical.

3. Jamie Vardy (LEI)

Jamie Vardy has been a bit hot and cold this season, being sensational when on form to virtually disappearing in certain games. This week Leicester welcome struggling Watford to the King Power. Watford have been very poor defensively conceding 13 big chances in the last five gameweeks and I expect Jamie Vardy to slot them away should he get the opportunity. He could be on for a big haul this week which could give him the much-needed confidence to regain his form.

4. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (LIV)

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain makes the cut as my fourth pick. A big factor in his selection is his amazing name but besides that, he already has 3 goals and 3 assists already this season. The Ox didn’t manage 3 goals in any single season at Arsenal but has achieved this feat already with 15 games still to play. Philippe Coutinho’s transfer to Barcelona has opened up more scope for first-team football and given that he will be fully motivated to make the World Cup squad for England he could be a good FPL bargain option at just £5.6m.

5. Wilfried Zaha (CRY)

Now, this is an interesting one, Wilfried Zaha will travel to the Emirates as Arsenal take on Crystal Palace. Arsenal has been in complete disarray after being knocked out of the FA Cup and suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Bournemouth in their last Premier League outing. Their defence is in shambles and the skilful Ivorian winger would be looking to pounce. It would be difficult to defeat Arsenal in their backyard but with the kind of performances being put in by the Gunners combined with Palace’s upturn in form could mean Zaha could be a really cheeky differential.

These are my five picks that could do well in the upcoming gameweek. Marko has been the most obvious of these picks with but I look at the others with a lot of promise. Sanchez is a little controversial and if the deal doesn’t go through I’ll look like an idiot but I am willing to take the risk to make a lasting first impression with my first preview piece. Vardy could very well be captain material and I look at the other two with great promise. Whether they will provide the goods we will have to wait and see.
I hope you all like this new column. I would love to hear any sort of feedback from your side either positive or negative so that I could make this column more interesting and helpful to the community.
As of always, I hope you all have a great GW24 full of green arrows. This is me Varun signing out.
