FPL: GW24 Captaincy Conundrum

Hi there fellow FPL managers. Nick Dolamore here (AKA @FantasyPLGuide on Twitter) to assist you in your all important captain pick that needs to be made, week in, week out. Every week I will look at three different captains I feel are viable options and have the potential to score big in the following GW.

I will back them up with stats and go over the odd past encounter with the respective opposition they will face which could influence their game in a positive way.

The different captains will be named accordingly:

1. Captain Obvious – The safest captain pick for the upcoming GW (Highly recommend you pick this one if you’re quite high in the rankings and prefer the safer option)

2. Captain Fantastic – This captain will likely be someone that serves as a bit of a differential and someone that is or can be very explosive.

3. Captain Wacky – Will always be a very wacky pick who could fly you FPL managers up or cause you a huge drop down the rankings. No risk, no reward, as they say.

1.  Harry Kane

My all-time favourite FPL player makes an appearance this week as, CAPTAIN OBVIOUS. Kane is in fantastic form, firing in goals left, right and centre. Coming into GW24 Kane is owned by a whopping 48% of FPL managers making him this weeks “Safe Pick”. Kane has scored eight goals in his last five matches in the Premier League, picking up 9 bonus points across those five games. As many of you may know Kane is chasing a record, a brace on Sunday and Harry will be the 27th member of the “100 club” beating Aguero and sitting in second place behind Shearer. With all this record breaking business on his mind, he could be even hungrier for goals than usual. Harry loves getting the job done.

2.  Sergio Aguero

After under-performing in recent weeks, we all know this FPL Legend’s potential. Aguero has the potential to explode on match-days, especially with Man City scoring goals for fun now-a-days. Three goals and two assists in his last five matches in the PL isn’t all that bad as his fellow strikers are also keen to get in on the score-sheet which does influence the amount of times Aguero finds the back of the net. Back in 2015, Aguero netted five goals in just 25 minutes against Newcastle and I’m sure to say he wouldn’t have forgotten that display. With that in mind he should gain that extra bit of confidence.

3.  Marcus Alonso

A risky captain pick that could prove to be a successful one in GW24 is Marcus Alonso. Marcus Alonso priced at a hefty 7.3m on FPL and registered as a defender on the game could seem like a waste of money but his goal threat and his left-wing role cannot go unnoticed. Alonso has scored 61 points in seven GW’s scoring three goals, picking up five clean-sheets as well as accumulating eight bonus points in that time. His form is outstanding and his free-kicks are just as spectacular. Chelsea face BHA this weekend which should see them keep a CS, and with Alonso’s attacking threat, you never know, he could be the one winning it for Chelsea as he’s done in the past.
