Gameweek 26 was a misery for most when it started. The big clash at Anfield of Liverpool against Spurs had a huge impact on Fantasy ranks. Aguero, being the most popular captained blanked while Salah continued scoring with his scintillating form.
There was a lot of drama this weekend and in this piece, we discuss on some important factors of Gameweek 26 to be considered for planning Gameweek 27.
1. Salah scores a brace in thriller.
Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah went into Liverpool’s clash with Spurs as two of the top three captaincy picks. The game ended with an extraordinary 2-2 draw and managers had no doubt as to who emerged as the victor in FPL terms.
Salah got his third double-digit score in the last six gameweeks with two goals and maximum bonus points for a 15-point haul. On the other hand, Kane scored one penalty and missed another to bring in just four points for the 17.3% FPL managers that trusted him with the armband.
Salah was captained by 13.1% managers and the Egyptian now has either a goal or an assist in 15 of his last 17 gameweeks. This consistency has set him apart from Kane and every other player in FPL.
The Spurs striker has produced returns in 12 0f 25 matches this season, while the Egyptian has prospered in 19. This made a huge difference for those who trusted Salah with the armband, which included only 15 of the top 100 managers.
The question that arises now is whether we can continue to overlook Salah for the armband and, if not, what impact that has on Kane and Aguero in squads. Liverpool’s upcoming schedule strengthens Salah’s appeal as they face only 2 of the top eight in the remaining 12 gameweeks of the season.
2. The Gunners get back in form post January transfer window.
Embed from Getty ImagesAll the hype of Arsenal’s match with Everton surrounded Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, while most of the points ended up with Aaron Ramsey. Arsenal’s record signing did mark his debut with a sweetly taken goal to reward his 93,000 managers who paid 10.5m for his services.
Aubameyang did impress us but Ramsey turned out to be the stand-out performer, who scored his first hat-trick from just three shots on goal to bag 20 points for his 3.2% ownership.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan was another midfielder who impressed us, whose home debut involved creating three big chances which then turned into three fantastic assists for the Armenian. Around 52,000 FPL managers bought him in for GW 26 and he duly obliged with a season-best 13 points which harked back to happier times with Manchester United at the start of the campaign.
The Gunners have a devilish double coming up but the 7.8m priced Mkhitaryan is currently the most purchased player of Gameweek 27 with Aubameyang being the second-most transferred in player, and Ramsey, third.
Talking of Arsenal’s defence, they failed to keep a clean sheet yet again and haven’t managed a single one since Gameweek 18. However, that didn’t stop their defenders from scoring points again, Laurent Koscielny scoring from a Shkodran Mustafi assist.

After GW 27, we will be having a two week break and by that time, we will also have a clearer idea of Blank GW 31. Hence, the two transfers will prove to be very useful at such a point.
