FPL: Lessons learnt from the last five gameweeks

Hello again FPL managers. I am back with my roundups after a long absence. Sorry for the delay but had some stuff to deal with. But now I am back and this time with a big round up for the last 5 GWs.

I will look at how different teams have fared over this Christmas period, which teams have improved and which teams have fallen and the emergence of various FPL assets. So let’s get started…

Man City are running away with it

Many things have changed over the last five weeks but Man City are still running away with. No one has been able to stop them and they have now made a record of 16 consecutive wins in the League. Raheem Sterling has emerged as one of the best options with regular starts over this period. The striker situation has been very difficult to predict but all the midfielders are providing great FPL value.

New Manager Bounce at West Ham, Leicester and Everton

David Moyes at West Ham and Sam Allardyce at Everton have changed their team’s fortunes since taking over their respective jobs. Wayne Rooney, Dominic Calvert-Lewin have emerged as great 3rd striker options while Jonjoe Kenny has been a consistent starter providing more consistent clean sheets. At West Ham Marco Arnautovic has picked up form alongside Manuel Lanzini and with 3 consecutive clean sheets West Ham defenders Arthur Masuaku and Angelo Ogbonna are grabbing more attention. It looks like a good time to invest in West Ham assets with a double gameweek coming up in GW22. At Leicester Riyad Mahrez is turning on the style providing good results for the Foxes. Another one to look at is Demarai Gray who has looked very good and now starting consistently. Leicester could provide great FPL options over the coming weeks.

Good run of results for Palace and Burnley

Crystal Palace have picked up some form with a few wins and draws over the last few gameweeks which has put them up to 14th. There has been great performances from Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke returning they have a great threat from the air. Also on the up for the whole season in fact has been Burnley who are up to 6th. Sean Dyche’s team has been one of the best defence in the league and shown great team spirit all season. It’s absolutely essential to have one of their defenders in your teams.

Man Utd, Chelsea best of the rest

Man Utd and Chelsea have been the most consistent teams of the rest except Man City. There has been an upturn in form of Romelu Lukaku which has led to 6 wins in the last 7 GW’s. A shock defeat to West Ham put aside it has also been a great 5 GW’s for Chelsea with their frontmen delivering especially Eden Hazard and also an upturn in form of Marcos Alonso the most expensive defender in the game. They both have decent fixtures which make their assets more enticing.

Inconsistent Teams all around

This has been a period of inconsistencies for most of the teams like Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal, Southampton, Brighton, Huddersfield and Bournemouth. These teams have failed to create any type of momentum with Arsenal probably the most consistent of the above. Harry Kane hasn’t had the best of times while Liverpool’s defensive frailties have made them inconsistent. Saints look very good one week and diabolical the next. Same can be said about Brighton, Bournemouth and Huddersfield. Players from these teams are not proving to be good options with the exception of a few such as Mohammed Salah.

Poor Performances

There are teams falling apart in the last few weeks namely Watford, Stoke, Newcastle, Swansea and West Brom. Watford have had a run of bad games over the last few weeks after an incredible start to the season. They are still getting goals but the performances along with luck is not on their side. Other teams like Swansea, West Brom have been bad all season and now are in a serious relegation battle. Stoke and Newcastle have had a massive fall with them stationed just outside the bottom 3. These teams offer next to nothing in terms with Richarlison maybe the only one with some returns in him. I’d suggest to stay away from these teams for now.

This has been my roundup of the last few weeks. There has been many unexpected turns in this Christmas run of fixtures and it is still a long way to go. GW’s come thick and fast so tighten your seat belts for this roller coaster ride and enjoy your Christmas. I wish you all good luck in future gameweeks and hope you can use my article to make some informed decisions. This is me Varun signing out.
