Harry Kane: Tottenham’s talisman scores his 23rd league goal of 2017/18

Harry Kane was once again on the money for Spurs as they emerged victorious from the North London derby with a 1-0 win over Arsenal.

Kane’s goal in the derby, his 23rd in the Premier League this season, was a well placed header in the 49th minute, meeting a Ben Davies cross to put Spurs 1-0 up shortly after half-time.

After reaching the immortal territory of the ‘100 club’ with his penalty in the 2-2 draw at Anfield last weekend, Kane looked sharp at Wembley, and his 101st Premier League goal was a fair reward for a tenacious performance from the Englishman.

If truth be told, Spurs could’ve and should’ve had more, though a series of strong saves from Arsenal keeper Petr Cech maintained a close score-line. Arsenal were unable to breakdown the Spurs defence despite the second start of club-record signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and despite the Gabonese forward showing promise, it was Tottenham’s talisman that grabbed the headlines and secured Spurs a vital three points in the quest to qualify for the Champions League.

As described by Juventus midfielder, Sami Khedira, in an interview with the BBC earlier this week previewing the last-16 clash between Juve and Spurs, Harry Kane once again gave a “complete” performance at Wembley, and the ability Kane holds to not only score an abundance of goals, but a variety of them too, is a true asset that England will be hoping to utilise in Russia this summer at the 2018 World Cup.

Whilst it is a well known notion for the British press to over-hype players ahead of big international tournaments, Kane is seemingly un-nerved by any task he is faced with, and his performance in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Arsenal was yet again testament to this.

We are surely witnessing the rise of a legend, a player whose name will remain etched in the history books for decades, even centuries, but amidst the glory and hype, I’m sure there’s only one thing on Harry Kane’s mind this weekend.

North London belongs to Tottenham this weekend, and with 23 Premier League goals in 2017/18, one senses this region is not the only territory that Harry Kane will be conquering in the coming weeks, months, and god forbid, this summer in Russia.
