Liverpool still in the race to sign Moises Caicedo

Liverpool remain in the hunt to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo this summer, according to a fresh update from journalist Sam Dean.

The Reds are badly in need of adding to their midfield during the summer transfer window, having toiled so much in that area last season.

Having previously been key members of the starting XI, both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson struggled badly for form, while the likes of Thiago, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were often injured.

It looks as though Alexis Mac Allister will complete a move to Liverpool imminently, representing an exciting signing, but the Reds may not stop there when it comes to the Seagulls.

Writing on Twitter on Tuesday, The Telegraph‘s Dean claimed that Caicedo remains a potential target for the Merseysiders this summer, although they are far from alone in being interested in him:

The Verdict on Liverpool’s pursuit of Caicedo

While it could be argued that Liverpool are outsiders to snap up Caicedo in the coming weeks, it is still exciting to hear that they are still in the mix, ahead of what looks set to be an effective window at Anfield.

Along with Mac Allister, the 21-year-old was the heartbeat of Brighton’s team throughout the 2022/23 campaign, with the pair providing so much energy in the middle of the park.

Caicedo averaged 2.7 tackles per game in the Premier League, which was more than any Seagulls player – incidentally, Mac Allister (2.0) was in joint-second place – and he was also strong in possession, completing 88.8% of his passes.

The fact that he can also play at right-back would be an added bonus for Jurgen Klopp, at a time when he is changing Trent Alexander-Arnold’s role, allowing the Brighton man to fill in there when the current Reds star drifts into a midfield role in possession.

At 21, Caicedo would also be a long-term addition who should only mature further, and while the likes of Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone would also be strong signings for Liverpool, they don’t have his Premier League experience yet.
