The transfer saga which has dragged on for well over a year looks set to end as Riyad Mahrez finally looks set to complete a long awaited move to Manchester City by the end of the week.
The Algerian, who has over 150 caps for Leicester and almost 50 goals was a vital foundation in Leicester City’s title winning side of 2015-16. Since then he has experienced the heights of Champions League football and has been looking for a move away from Leicester with the star wanting to display his skills for some of the power-houses of Europe on the greatest of stages.
The Foxes requested £80m from the current Premier League champions back in January but look set to finally let the winger go for three quarters that total. The 27-year-old is expected to complete a medical in the coming days after the clubs coming to an agreement.
Mahrez was not due back at pre-season training, which begun yesterday for the Foxes, due to an international fixture and odds have been slashed to 1/20 for the French born star to make the move north to Manchester. He was subject to a move to the champions in January but this fell through and he played the remainder of the 17-18 campaign for the side who captured him for a mere £450,000 from French side Le Havre. Mahrez was also subject to a move to Roma in the Summer of 2017 yet the Italian side fell well short of the asking price.
Although Leicester fans are still not ready for a final goodbye, his services to the club will never be forgotten and he will remain a legend in the East Midlands city for years.
