Manchester United drop their pursuit of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and turn to PSG star

Manchester United have reportedly dropped their interest in Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka and instead are switching their efforts to signing PSG’s Thomas Meunier according to reports in the Sun.

It is believed that Manchester United would like a second option at right-back to contend with Diogo Dalot and it is suggested that Solskjaer would prefer an experienced right back for competition instead of two youngsters in the position.

Jose Mourinho hailed Dalot as the ‘best full-back in Europe’ for his age group after arriving from Porto for £19million last summer yet he has struggled to really stamp his mark during his time at Old Trafford so far despite being used extensively by Soljksaer since his arrival. He slotted in at left wing-back in Wednesday’s defeat to Barcelona yet his preferred position and future is seen at right-back.

Belgians Thomas Meunier is believed to now be at the top of Soljskear’s wish list at right back and after only starting in just four of PSG’s last 14 games, the right-back could be looking for a way out of Paris this summer.

The 27-year-old joined PSG from Club Brugge back in 2016 and also boasts 30 international caps for Belgium. It is suggested that Meunier is also a huge Manchester United fan and has travelled to Old Trafford to watch them play this season. He is behind Dani Alves and Thilo Kehrer in the pecking order in Paris and a move to Old Trafford would likely be of interest to the 27-year-old.

Crystal Palace’s Wan-Bissaka is reportedly also being chased by Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund and is rated at £50 million. Meunier is also considered a cheaper option than the 21-year-old and ahead of Manchester United’s fixture with West Ham today, the Red Devils are faced with somewhat of a defensive crisis. Full-backs Young and Luke Shaw are both suspended whilst Antonio Valencia is not fully fit. Dalot will likely feature is one of the full-back positions against West Ham but the Red Devils are continually seeking new options with Meunier the newest one to fit the bill.
