Manchester United set asking price for Harry Maguire

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have now set an asking price for club captain Harry Maguire, however, it is claimed that it will be unlikely that any potentially interested suitors would be willing to meet the valuation.

Erik Ten Hag will be thrilled with the progress his squad has made over his first campaign in charge at Old Trafford and it is now looking like the former Ajax head coach has decided which players are up to scratch or not.

Recent reports from the Daily Mail have claimed that the club are willing to sell a total of 13 players before the transfer window shuts, from experienced first-team players like Fred, Scott McTominay, Jadon Sancho and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, to youth talent with Anthony Elanga and Hannibal Mejbri named too.

It is clear that the Red Devils are keen to bolster transfer funds to bring in new additions who fit the manager’s philosophy and style of play, with Mason Mount the first to seal a move to the red side of Manchester this summer.

The club are in the process of completing a deal for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana and have their sights set on bringing in a brand new number nine to dominate the final third next season, so there is plenty of work still to be done and more new signings expected before the Premier League resumes next month.

As a result, the Manchester Evening News has revealed that Man United will command a transfer fee of £50m to part ways with Maguire this summer, but are not looking to sell the England international desperately during the current window.

Our verdict on Harry Maguire’s future at Manchester United…

There is no doubt that Maguire has had a controversial tenure at Old Trafford since signing for a whopping world-record fee of £80m back in 2019, and it is looking like his days have been numbered for a while.

Over last season the 30-year-old found himself falling even further out of favour under Ten Hag, tallying up just 16 appearances and eight starts in the Premier League.

Maguire still has two years left on his contract but has fallen so far down the pecking order with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw all more trusted in the central defensive roles, that it makes more sense for the defender to push for a move away if he is looking for first team football in the near future.

Man United have also been linked with a move for Axel Disasi over the last few days, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Red Devils will compete with Newcastle United for the signing of the Monaco centre-back this summer, which again, doesn’t bode well for Maguire’s future.

With that being said, it will be interesting to see if any clubs step forward to meet Man United’s desired fee for Maguire this summer, however, without regular first team football recently and an expensive valuation it is looking very likely that the skipper will face another campaign on the bench under Ten Hag next season.
