Manchester United star set to leave on free transfer

Manchester United keeper David De Gea is reportedly concerning the Old Trafford hierarchy as rumours of his departure gather pace, according to reports in The Irish Sun.

The United shot-stopper, widely considered to be his club’s most important player, has a contract that runs until next summer, and reports have suggested that Juventus, masters in the execution of free transfers, are heavily considering an approach that would be considered a huge blow for Ed Woodward and the club as a whole.

The Spaniard, who is approaching the 250-game mark for United, has been capped 37 times for his country, and as questions marks continue to linger over manager Jose Mourinho as well as the club’s ability to challenge for the title, De Gea could seek an exit next summer, with an extremely long list of suitors waiting in the wings.

If United’s 2019 summer window is anything like their last, then a move away from Old Trafford for De Gea would be far from surprising – Real Madrid are marked as an interested party, though irrespective of his potential destination, the departure of De Gea would mark a significant blow for everyone associated with Manchester United.
