PSG star touted as the right man to resolve Chelsea’s centre forward issues

The transfer rumours rumble on at Chelsea and most recently it is Edinson Cavani, according to The Daily Mail, who may be on his way to Stamford Bridge.

The most recent mumblings regarding the Blue’s transfer situation have been regarding a potential move to Sevilla for Alvaro Morata given his inconsistent form and that Gonzalo Higuaín was being lined up as a replacement.

However, as we have already reported, there are a few stumbling blocks to an Higuaín move because of his age and his current situation with AC Milan. With that in mind, it seems the Chelsea hierarchy may be lining up a move for PSG striker Edinson Cavani.

The 31-year-old Uruguayan is just another forward who is being lined up to step into the Chelsea number 9 role should Alvaro Morata be offloaded to Spain. The ex-Napoli striker has been in scintillating form for the French champions so far this season, scoring 10 goals and recording two assists in 11 matches.

Cavani has always been a coveted player since moving to Napoli in 2010 and now it seems he may be on his way to London. Chelsea are seriously lacking a goal scorer and Cavani would certainly fit the bill.

Although he is the same age as Higuaín at 31, Cavani offers much more in terms of his natural fitness. Whilst Higuaín is a tremendous technician, he perhaps doesn’t offer the same energy as Edinson Cavani, who is much regarded as one of the most industrious forwards in Europe. The Uruguayan it seems would be more suited the physical rigours of the Premier League in comparison with Higuaín and a transfer for the PSG player is much less complicated.

Nonetheless, a deal is by no means close. That said, you can bet that the rumours around Chelsea’s striker situation will continue throughout the transfer window until a resolution has been found or until the window shuts on the 31st of January.
