Tottenham set to launch bid for English Premier League keeper

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly lining up a bid for England and Burnley keeper Nick Pope, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

Pope, 26, rose from the fringes of Burnley’s bench to Premier League prominence following an injury to fellow keeper Tom Heaton and impressed so much for the Clarets that he made Gareth Southgate’s final 23 for the World Cup in Russia.

Following Sean Dyche’s decision to sign Joe Hart this summer, owing to injuries to Heaton and Pope himself, the Englishman faces a truly tough task to break back into Burnley’s starting XI, given Hart’s impressive performances between the sticks for Dyche’s side this season.

Part of Tottenham’s desire to sign Pope lies with his home-grown status, and with question marks lingering over Hugo Lloris’s long-term future at the club, a move for Pope would assist in filling their quota and would align with chairman Daniel Levy’s philosophy of signing players yet to hit their prime, but with the unquestionable potential to shine in the Premier League.
